Doing this piece for the show I’m headlining at the PUSH Gallery here in Phoenix May 1st. Still working through the title, but I’m thinking “there’s no such thing as free Gold strands.” My interpretation of the classic story of Rumpelstiltskin.
Here’s a couple progress shots showing some of the build up in layers and glazes over a couple sittings. Trying to get a really dimensional and proper feel for this character. Also, not sure if the mask needs more, but i originally had a lot of paisley in mind for that too. Not sure if I’m feeling it anymore. This is a very uncertain stage that I don’t usually reach in a painting, but I’m trying to push my boundaries and perspectives, so I suppose it’s to be expected!
