the Spawn is on!

So after I did the original spawn Dunny, i received a lot of spawn inquiries, one of which was from a very cool collector in Hawaii, that was open to the idea of doing an angel spawn, easily one of the most popular versions of spawn outside the original, so the bar of expectations was set pretty high on doing this figure justice!

a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and captain morgan’s rum later, he was completed. Don’t even get me started about how long those wings took, considering they are completely hand sculpted feather by feather, from scratch. But i think the result was worth it.

“Wings of Redemption Spawn” 2009 Acrylic, airbrush, resin on 8″ dunny.

Since it’s resin, this guy is easily my heaviest sculpt yet! The wings weigh almost twice as much as the figure itself!

My next Spawn related figure is a mandarin spawn for a collector in Singapore! Should be a very interesting challenge for those familiar with the design!

in commission related news, we are coming into a new a month, and I will be scheduling in a new round of commissions over August! As usual, I have very limited time available, so I will only be able to accept a few requests.

If you are interested in commissioning a piece for August, spawn or otherwise, please feel free to email me direct at Josh@fplusnever.com

Thanks again to everyone for their support and interest in my work. :) I’ll have a non spawn related update soon as well!

Summer time, and the living’s umm… easy?

So far, this month, I’ve been busier than a one-legged cat trying to bury a turd on a frozen lake. (How’s that for a visual?) booked through the month on commissions, and each one, I’m putting a little extra time into, so it’s been a lot of long days, but I’m not complaining, I love it! :)

on Monday, I gave a presentation to the Mesa Artrepeneurs group about originality, dedication, the challenge and reward of putting yourself out there as an artist. The audience was really responsive, and i think I inspired the group, which was a really fulfilling experience. unlike most people, I truly enjoy public speaking, and I look forward to doing more of it as my career progresses!

So, I’ll be unveiling my next Spawn dunny soon, (HINT: it’s going to be insane) but for now I’ll leave you with some pics of my latest commissions I’ve finished:

Custom Kanser: “Spirit Hunter” 2009 Kanser with resin, acrylic, gold enamel and string.

More big reveals coming soon! Stay tuned. like a soap opera. :)
